Writing in the ruins
If you need peace and quiet to concentrate on your writing, or inspiration to start in the first place, then Leiston Abbey, near Aldeburgh on the Suffolk Heritage Coast, is the perfect setting. The ruins of this 14th century Abbey are ideal for peaceful contemplation. The Guesten Lodge provides good basic accommodation and the Guesten Hall serves delicious home-cooked meals three times a day.
The 4-day fiction course concentrates on the basic techniques of fiction writing – characterisation, plot, dialogue, viewpoint, good beginnings (and middles and endings!), painting pictures in words, etc. Manuscript critiques and one-to-one sessions ensure that participants have individual attention, and the workshops and discussion groups provide the tuition and feedback most writers crave.
So, if you feel you need more than a weekend’s course and can’t come on a Greek Week, our Leiston Abbey 4-day course - from Monday to Friday and usually run in September - could be for you.
If you're writing a novel or short story and want peace and quiet to write, Leiston Abbey is the ideal place. You can come on a writing retreat (without course) for £220, fully inclusive, and take part in evening entertainment and trips to Aldeburgh and other local places of interest. If you want to join in course sessions cost is £15 per session. I f you want an in-depth, written critique of a maximum 2,000-word short story or chapter of a novel, and have a one-to-one during the week, this will be £20 extra. Click here to contact us.
